If one family out of every three churches in America adopted a child, there would be no more orphans in America. When I first heard this statistic I was shocked. Usually I only heard the big, fat, impossible, astronomical number of orphans currently waiting for homes in this country and it seemed impossible to ever overcome this crisis.
But one family in three churches? THAT is totally doable. We could solve this problem right now. Even better, what if all the other families who don’t adopt come alongside the adoptive families and support them financially, emotionally and physically? People, THIS IS POSSIBLE.
What’s the hard part? That first step in obedience. God calls us in the old and new testaments (Isaiah 1:17, James 1:27) to care for orphans.
But what kind of child will we invite into our home? What if we can’t afford it? What if they don’t think we’re a good enough family?
There are many valid fears and concerns, but God knew about them when he called us to care for orphans. He still called us.
So I’m going to try to bust those myths, address those fears, and answer those questions through this blog. I hope to give confidence to those thinking about adoption, and even more, get them taking those steps forward! Each child born into this world deserves a safe, loving home. YOUR home.
Adoption is necessary to improve our world. If not us, then who?
P.S. If you have ever wondered something about adoption, ask here in the comments or email me. I can’t wait to find answers to your questions!
